Greetings! Our safety process, participation and performance were not where we wanted them in 2001. At that time, we gathered a team to develop a program to increase active participation in the safety process, raise safety awareness, and change our safety culture. The Gold Star program has now been in place for six years, and has been a great success.

 

Your participation has helped us move toward our goal of ensuring that everyone goes home safely to their families each day. This year, we are modifying our awards program to provide additional opportunities to earn Stars, to provide many more options for how you redeem those Stars, and to extend this program to all Western Division employees.

 

In my 26 years in the business, I am proud to say that this is the most comprehensive safety process that I have seen. It actively involves each of us in making things safer, and even allows the family to get involved in making the home safer through the Home Safety program.

 

This program was developed for you, so I hope everyone takes the opportunity to look through the updated information, awards, and website. The ultimate goal of the Guardian Angel process, which will be rolled out to Western Division employees early in 2008, is to create a culture in which we make SAFE DECISIONS in everything we do, whether at work or at home. Our goal is to achieve and maintain World Class status with our safety process, something we can do only with your daily commitment. The Gold Star program is our way of saying thank you for your participation in this process.
